Margarita Sierra

Marena

I was born in a magic land: Barranquilla, Colombia.
I began to study Architecture because I felt tendency to drawing since I was a teenager, but finally I realized that what I was really passionate about Art!
However, my artistic career started years later in my second land, Venezuela, where I went to live with my husband and my children.
There I held art workshops and seminars in different art institutions, like the Art School Rafael Monasterios in Maracay, Art Modern Museum Mario Abreu and Antropologic Museum of Maracay. I approached various techniques, like drawing, graphics, painting, sculpture, and watercolor.

My medium of expression

I express myself in different media such as drawing, painting, watercolor and installation. In this sense, I have more freedom of expression in my artistic process. Each idea develops and demands its own form of creation.

Nowadays, the Installation has occupied a time and important dedication in my artistic work, is what more I like. I feel fulfilled with my proposals when I can “break into” the space, I mean, with volume and mass and, the most significant: I can see how the public interacts with the work.

My Inspiration

If we talk about inspiration, definitely for me the main one is the Caribbean atmosphere with its vibrant warm colors. It is that sea that invaded my retina as a child. For this reason I wanted to develop the theme of the fish in the last decade of my work, emphasizing an ecological message, to protect fish and seas.

It is more than 30 years of artistic career, in which I have been recognized with awards in my beloved Venezuela and I have had the satisfaction of participating in international exhibitions in the United States, Spain and Colombia.
